In this 4 week class you will learn how knit a traditional sock with a heel flap and gusset. Each week I will introduce one specific section of the sock with techniques and tips to help make the leap to sock knitting less intimidating.
In order to have the most success in this class we recommend that you are comfortable knitting in the round with double pointed needles.
This class includes your supplies, needles and pattern.
Wednesday, August 28th from 6-8
Crewel embroidery: It sounds like a Gothic horror movie. But it's actually the name of a beautiful, ever-popular type of surface embroidery that's been around for centuries.
A wide variety of different embroidery stitches are used to follow/fill in a design outlined on fabric. Jacobean Crewel Embroidery has a very distinctive look and is what most people associate with this particular craft.
In this class you will learn several different stitches and how to use them together to fill in a design. You will also learn about fabrics, threads and various tools of the trade.
Your class fee includes all your materials.
Tuesday, August 13th from 6-8pm
Using the running stitch as a base, I will introduce you to the Japanese tradition of Sashiko stitching. We will cover how to use traditional patterns and create your own grid based designs. Sashiko is a traditional handwork that can help you to slow down and create with intention. This technique can also be used to visibly mend clothing giving each piece a unique flare.

Starting Tuesday, April 16th from 6-8 and continuing on the third Tuesday of each month.
This class is a series that meets monthly for 11 months working on one panel each month covering various types of colour work. In the 11th class we will cover seaming and border techniques.
We recommend Worsted wt yarn for this class. (note that the book suggests a DK wt yarn that we do not currently carry)
You will need to increase to a size US 7 or 8 needle with the worsted wt yarn.
This is an intermediate class and not appropriate for beginner knitters. If you would like a beginner series we highly recommend starting with Building Blocks and then taking this class.
Saturday, July 6th from 1-4
'Macraweaving' is a technique that combines the best of macramé and the best of weaving, resulting in a unique and beautiful style of fibre art. In this class you will learn a variety of weaving techniques and knots to create your own 6.5 × 13 inch macraweave wall hanging (note exact length will vary, depending on creative choices). There is no set pattern to follow for this class. Instead, you will build upon the skills taught by local fibre artist Laura Dyer (Knot Your Girl) to create a piece that is entirely your own.
The first half of the class will focus on learning knots and creating the macramé sections of your work. In the second half, you will focus on incorporating weaving techniques into the wall hanging. Through these processes, you will learn some of the foundational skills needed to start exploring the wonderful worlds of macramé and weaving on your own!
(All materials are included in the class fee. Please note that this class involves working while standing for most of the creating process. If this is an issue for you please chat with Knot Your Girl and Knit Stitch Sew so we can find a more accessible and comfortable solution for you.)
This series was created by Michelle Hunter of the Knit Purl Hunter Blog and was specifically designed to grow a knitters skills through a series of 'building blocks'.

Each month's technique is supported by on-line video tutorials to help you until your next class.
